About Abigél Varga

Abigél Varga was born in 1996 and grew up in Eger, Hungary. She started her BA Applied Composition studies as a student of Varga Judit and Tallér Zsófia at Franz Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest. In 2021 she graduated in MA Composition as a student of Varga Judit and Tornyai Péter at Franz Liszt Academy of Music. Between 2021-2023 she was the student of Moritz Eggert at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, in the Komposition Meisterklasse postgraduate programme.
In 2017, Abigél won second prize at the Composition Competition of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. In 2018 November she won semi-finalist prize at the composition round of Bartok World Competition and Festival, and in 2018 August she won third prize at the Neszlényi Andor composition scholarship of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. In 2019 May she won semi-finalist prize at Classic Pure Vienna International Composition Competition. In 2022, her short opera Coded Bodies, based on the libretto of Aleksandra Jovic, was premiered on the stage of the Studiobühne in Munich. In 2023, Abigél was selected as one of the participants of the Lucerne Festival Composer's Seminar by Wolfgang Rihm and Dieter Ammann, together with seven other young composers from over a hundred applicants. The seminar and final concert took place in August 2023, with the mentorship of Dieter Ammann and Unsuk Chin. In  2023 her oratorio Embrace was performed in the Reaktorhalle Munich as her final graduation concert. In 2023-2024 she composed the operette Lisas Land des Lächelns based on the original piece of Franz Lehár, which was performed in the Neuköllner Oper Berlin. 
Beside composing, Abigél also takes part in musical life as a concert organiser and event manager. In 2018/2019 she organised several concerts and cultural events at FUGA Concert Hall Budapest, Franz Liszt Academy of Music, MÜPA Palace of Arts, Synagogue of Tokaj, Roman Catholic Church Tokaj, Hall of Arts Eger. Between 2019-2021, she worked as an event organiser assistant in the concert organisation department of FUGA alongside Judit Rajk, curator of classical music events. In the summer of 2019-2020-2021-2022, she was an artistic coordinator and concert organiser at the Crescendo Summer Academy in Tokaj. In 2023, she participated in the organisation of the aDevantgarde Festival in Munich as a co-organiser.
